Lesson No. 1 I heard there: Be a lifelong learner.

17:23
Lesson No. 2: You always have five minutes to make somebody better.

20:55
I love that. I run our storytellers project and write thank you notes to volunteers and team members after shows. Here’s a lesson: Give them away but one day they will sit on your desk for weeks because of coronavirus, thanking no one.

24:22
Sometimes I feel more like a counselor or life coach lol

26:24
@Jen Heaslip… same

31:42
I love the idea of the hand-written notes right now. I do this at the end of the year for my team as a culmination thank you. But I didn't even think to do it during this time. Thanks for the suggestion!

36:36
Love that, Sarah! I'm in a similar spot and got similar feedback. It's nice to hear someone else say "hey, trust yourself and just be confident in decisions"

37:52
I love the notes idea. They helped me trust my gut and believe in my own work that I felt was going unnoticed. Definitely planning to do similar acts of gratitude with my current team.

39:02
I had an employee throw a chair at me. I calmed out of the situation

39:14
even though I am high anxiety. it’s powerful

40:04
It’s been really surprising (frightening really LOL) because the reporters in my newsroom have called me calm a few times as we dealt with a massive flood and then this COVID crisis. Anyone who knows me will laugh. I think I am anything but calm but it is nice to know that the staff saw me that way.

47:04
Good example! Thanks

47:30
YAY!

48:08
I think the comment about doing the next right thing is so important. It's pretty much always the simplest path forward. For example, I was on a call with a bunch of photographers that were increasingly worried about not having face masks for conoravirus and it was kind of an overwhelming need. Then, I remembered I sew, so I started sewing some masks for them because that felt like the next right thing

48:23
Michael’s newsroom reflects his desire to hire and promote journalists who think differently. It’s a notable quality that shows his leadership in action.

48:37
Wow Katie. +1,000

48:40
I love that idea, Katie.

48:49
Katie oh my gosh! I'm so impressed.

49:00
Good point Bill!

55:48
What advice do you have for someone who is sometimes in a leadership role without a leadership title. It can be an awkward position at times.

55:59
so tough

56:14
Yes that can be tough.
